For anyone who is a
parent, grandparent, aunt, and uncle or even if you just know a child who
is someone special in your life, the safety of children is something that
is of predominant concern. It is this concern that caused Toothprints Bite
Impressions to strike a cord with me, and I am writing to share with you
the use of Toothprints Bite Impressions as a means of safeguards our
children.
Every child’s teeth
vary in size, shape, position and relationship in the bite. The uniqueness
and difference in a child’s dentition allows it to act as a dental
fingerprint. A dental fingerprint is extremely important as children often
have fewer or even no dental restorations in their mouths which
traditionally have acted as markers for identification. Toothprints Bite
Impressions has been developed by a pediatric dentist as a simple, pleasant
way to record the dental characteristics of children to use in identification,
and as a means of protecting children. The child simply bites into a wafer
to record the size and shape of the teeth, tooth position within the arch
and the relationship of the upper and lower jaw. The wafer, or toothprint,
then hardens into a reliable long-term record of the child’s unique
dentition. Additionally, as the toothprint wafer is stored in a sealed zip
lock bag, salvia adhering to the wafer provides a DNA sample as well as a
saliva scent for scent tracking dogs.
We are now offering
Toothprints Bite Impressions in the office. As I stated, I believe nothing
is more important that the safety and well being of our children. If any
child is brought into the office for a bite impression the only charge for
the impression will be $5.00, which covers the cost of a Toothprints Bite
Impressions kit. There will not be any additional charge for chair time.
If anyone has any
further questions about Toothprints Bite Impressions or any other matter,
my staff and myself are always available.
